After a nearly six year break I came back to music in 2011 with a vengeance. Armed with new recording tools and a backlog of 12 songs I had the goal of recording a song a week for the whole year. I ended up with 24 songs in total, but still this was by far my most active year as a musician. I feel like this marks the beginning of my current style, moving away from songs mainly inspired by 90s alternative and grunge like Nirvana, Third Eye Blind, The Offspring, and Radio Head I moved towards a sound inspired by my new love for indie bands like The Shins, Neutral Milk Hotel, and my all time favorite Frightened Rabbit.
The album name comes from a lyric in the lead track Bullet Proof which goes “Bullet proof and dying inside, I guess this is what it’s like to be alive.” Much like my earlier “albums” the sentiment is pretty dark, and eludes to putting up a strong front even when it feels like everything is crumbling down.
